Well Hello, I'm Lacey! I'm married to a MBA student and our ten year anniversary is shortly on its way. After five years of "trying" and infertility we welcomed Em into our life through the miracle of adoption. I suffer from endometriosis and just had my fourth laparoscopy. I've also done three rounds of Lupron, and different birth controls to keep my endo at bay. Our daughter was recently diagnosed with ADHD and keeps us on our toes at all times. She has become quite the comedian and we love her outgoing personality.
Questions:
What is Endometriosis? A painful condition in which the cells from the lining of the uterus appear on the outside of the uterine cavity and cause havoc. There is no cure, only treatment.
What is Lupron? A strong drug that shuts down the production of estrogen and shrinks endometriosis making your body feel like it's going through menopause. In other word it's the "make Lacey a raging lunatic" drug.
Isn't your daughter too young to be diagnosed with ADHD? Mem's was diagnosed by a doctor and with the authority to diagnose children with behavioral issues. She was evaluated and observed and I was questioned like crazy. It stung when she got the diagnosis, but we're thankful she can now get the help she needs.
Do you believe in open adoption? Yes! We have what we call a semi open adoption. Because we live in a different state than Mem's birth family we only see each other once a year, but we send pictures and text regularly. We believe it is important for Mems to know her beginning and the wonderful family she came from. We never want her to feel being adopted is a bad thing or that there are secrets about her past. We always want her to have a positive outlook because truly she came to us in a miraculous way.
Do all kids who were adopted have issues? First of all that is a dumb question and secondly, no. I hesitate to share that Mems is both adopted and has ADHD because everyone likes to blame everything on adoption. Reality is, who knows the kind of crazy kid my husband and my genes would have created. We love her, ADHD and all.
What is this blog about? I created this blog mainly as an outlet for me. Most days I feel like a failure as a parent, but once in a blue moon I learn skills that work for our little girl. With my husband working full time and in the MBA program, I'm alone...a lot. But hey, it could be worse. I will need all the support I can get throughout the next two years. Plus, big BIG things are happening this Fall and I'm wiggin' out just a tad.
You talk about some weird spiritual things. Are you Morman? Yes, I am a member of the Church of Latter Day Saints of Jesus Christ or more easily called LDS. You can find out more about it here.
